John Barker Springhouse Re-dedication

The re-dedication of the recently constructed John Barker Springhouse took place on Wednesday, September 6 at 5 p.m.

The Springhouse has been an amenity and staple to the community and surrounding area for many generations. The ceremony formally acknowledged the impact this springhouse has been to the community. Those who shared their words at the event included Mayor Thomas Bernabei; Derek Gordon, Parks and Recreation Director; John Mariol II, Ward 7 councilman; and David Wheeler, Director of Public Affairs at AEP.

Additionally, city council members and community members were present to show their support of the Springhouse.

Funding for the John Barker Springhouse project was made possible by the Canton Park Levy along with generous contributions from American Electric Power and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

ABOUT THE JOHN BARKER SPRINGHOUSE
The artesian well which serves as the water source for the Spring House was drilled by the Canton Water Department in the late 1920’s, and the facility has been a public source of free untreated water since 1968. The current structure was dedicated in the memory of Reverend John Barker of the local Calvary Presbyterian Church.
